Design Goals

This project aims to redesign the traditional surf tool by creating a more sustainable, ergonomic alternative using PLA reinforced with cotton flock. Current surf tools are often provided for free, which leads users to undervalue them, misplace them, and ultimately contribute to unnecessary waste. By improving both the sustainability metric and the user experience, this redesigned tool encourages long-term ownership and reduces the environmental impact, while offering a more comfortable and intentional tool for everyday use.

Ideation

The ideation phase combined visual research, sketching, and prototyping to explore both aesthetic and functional possibilities. Moodboards helped define the project’s direction, while sketching enabled rapid iteration and problem-solving. Early prototypes were used to test form, scale, and structure, ensuring concepts were grounded before moving forward.
